Sabi Sand, South Africa (October 11, 2023): SAOTA, ARRCC, and Poliform have come together to unveil “LIGHT SPACE LIFE,” an exhibit at the 2023 Architecture Biennale in Venice, featuring luxury sustainable safari lodge Cheetah Plains as part of the Time Space Existence exhibition hosted by the European Cultural Centre. This extraordinary project takes visitors on a journey to the heart of the South African Lowveld, showcasing Cheetah Plains’ unique blend of modernist design, raw materiality, and luxury as it co-exists with their commitment to carbon-negative operation.

This exhibition, hosted at Palazzo Bembo, has already captivated over 250,000 visitors since its opening in May. The immersive video wall within the exhibit provides an unparalleled opportunity to explore the essence of Cheetah Plains while delving into the intricate relationship between LIGHT, SPACE, LIFE, and architecture. By experiencing Cheetah Plains at the Venice Architecture Biennale, visitors can understand the vital connection between nature and human existence.

Cheetah Plains in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, adjacent to the renowned Kruger National Park, challenges the conventional notion of luxury safari lodges.

SAOTA’s Principal and Founder, Stefan Antoni, describes the project as an exploration of the delicate balance between human existence and the world, saying,“The design explores the creative tension between our contemporary human existence and the raw, primal natural world. Through the architecture and interior design, we strive to forge connections and contrasts that enable profound and meaningful encounters with nature.

The architectural and interior design of Cheetah Plains serves as a platform for profound encounters with nature, merging the boundaries between modernity and the wilderness.

Jon Case, Director of the ARRCC, emphasizes that, “The Buildings and interiors are consciously restrained but layered in form, detail and materiality. They create a sensory platform to experience the African bush in its purest form.”

Cheetah Plains is a testament to innovation, sustainability, and the fusion of contemporary design with the untouched natural world, embodying a new era in luxury safari experiences. The project showcases Cheetah Plains’ carbon-negative operation, highlighting the need for eco-consciousness and conservation in the field of architecture and travel.
